Ubuntu Trinity Beta/Release Candidate Repository Installation Instructions

1. Ensure the Ubuntu Universe and Multiverse repositories are available for use

As root (e.g. using sudo), uncomment (remove the # marks from) the lines of your /etc/apt/sources.list file that include Universe and Multiverse
If your system does not contain entries for Universe and Multiverse, append " universe multiverse" to your main Ubuntu repository line
Alternatively, you may use graphical tools or other tutorials to enable the Universe and Multiverse repositories--the exact method of enabling is not important to the TDE installation process

2. Ensure the Ubuntu Recommended Updates repository is available for use

As root (e.g. using sudo), uncomment (remove the # marks from) the lines of your /etc/apt/sources.list file that include -updates
If your system does not contain entries for -updates, copy your main Ubuntu repository line to the end of the /etc/apt/sources.list file and append -updates to the distribution name
Alternatively, you may use graphical tools or other tutorials to enable the Recommended Updates repository--the exact method of enabling is not important to the TDE installation process

3. Add these lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file

Known Problems

  • These issues were fixed after TDE R14.0.0 RC1 release and updated packages are available starting with TDE R14.0.0 RC2:
  1. The TDE compositor shipped with RC1 does not function correctly; shadows, fading, and configuration are nearly unusable.
  2. The Crystal TWin style does not update its decorations' transparency when switching desktops.
  3. Certain TDE menu subcategories, such as games, are missing icons.
  4. Firefox and/or Thunderbird may randomly and aberrantly crash at startup and/or during use.
  5. tdm fails to reliably start on slow systems
  6. Move the location of .kompmgr.available and kompmgr.pid
  7. The various default settings packages on Debian and Ubuntu have not been updated with tasteful compositor default settings
  8. The Konqueror file browsing root combobox icon is missing
  9. libsvnqt4-trinity and tdesvn-trinity conflict
  10. R14 trinity-apt-archive points to nightly builds
  11. synaptic-trinity priority should be optional, not important
  12. TDE presents unnecessary dialog when connecting ebook reader
  13. Help handbooks in kcontrol modules with multiple tabs does not work
  • These issues were likely fixed after TDE R14.0.0 RC1 release, but additional testing is required in TDE R14.0.0 RC2:
  1. tdeprint does not support the compressed PPD database
  2. Some windows stay transparent with recent Compton update
  • These issues were fixed after TDE R14.0.0 RC2 release and updated packages will be available in TDE R14.0.0 Final:
  1. kdesktop_lock remained active after awakening
  2. Task switching semi-broken
  3. khelpcenter handbook section wrong display/resolution (in some rare cases)
  4. Device links do not function
  5. TDEPowersave doesn't report running on battery
  • These issues were likely fixed after TDE R14.0.0 RC2 release, but additional testing is required before TDE R14.0.0 Final:
  1. Network settings module does not automatically detect/support newer distribution versions
  • These issues are not yet fixed, but repairs are anticipated for TDE R14.0.0 Final:
  1. TDE presents two dialogs and desktop icons with USB ISO image
  • These issues are under investigation for repair in TDE R14.0.0 Final, but may not be fixed before release:
  • These issues require manual intervention to be resolved:
  1. Konqueror may cache old icon names, leading to the default unknown icon being incorrectly displayed in the URL bar under certain circumstances. To fix this the icon mapping cache must be cleared; simply edit $HOME/.trinity/share/config/konq_history and remove the ComboIconCache line.
  • These issues will be addressed in a later TDE release:
  1. Add lcms2 support
  2. Visual glitches when QTCurve is used on R14 nightlies
